About This Program
Beekeeping in Kenya is a growing agricultural activity practiced across arid, semi-arid, and highland regions. Farmers keep both traditional log hives and modern hives like Langstroth and Kenyan Top Bar. The warm climate and diverse vegetation support strong honey production, making beekeeping a low-cost, environmentally friendly source of income. It is valued for honey, beeswax, and pollination services, and is increasingly promoted for rural livelihoods and conservation.
Objectives
To promote beekeeping as a sustainable livelihood activity that empowers communities by increasing household income, creating employment opportunities, and reducing poverty through affordable honey production and value-added bee products.
Expected Outcomes
Communities experience improved economic stability as households generate consistent income from honey and other bee products. Increased local employment and entrepreneurship reduce poverty levels, while sustainable beekeeping practices enhance long-term wealth creation and resilience.
